Apple has officially entered the foldable phone game. Meet the iPhone Duo, the company’s first-ever foldable iPhone, featuring a 7.6-inch inner display, A20 Pro chip and a starting price of RM9,499 in Malaysia.

When folded, the iPhone Duo has a compact 5.4-inch outer display, making it easier to use one-handed and carry around. Open it up and you get a much larger 7.6-inch display for gaming, watching videos, multitasking and basically doing more on your phone.

It’s Not Just a Bigger Screen

Apple is clearly going beyond simply making the iPhone fold.

The iPhone Duo comes with ProMotion, Always On display and up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness on both displays. There’s also a nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and make the crease less noticeable.

And yes, Apple has thought about durability too. The phone uses a Grade 5 titanium enclosure, Ceramic Shield protection and an IP68 rating for splash, water and dust resistance. Its hinge is made from more than 100 components to control how the phone opens and closes.

The Camera Gets Some Foldable Tricks

The iPhone Duo packs a 48MP Fusion Main camera with 2x optical-quality Telephoto, alongside a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera.

But the foldable design unlocks some interesting camera features too.

Smart Take can automatically capture a photo when everyone is ready, while Duo Preview lets subjects see the live camera preview on the outer display. There’s also Duo FaceTime, allowing people around you to join a video call using the outer screen.

For video fans, the main camera can shoot 4K at 120fps in Dolby Vision, opening up some serious slow-motion possibilities.

A20 Pro + Dual Battery

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro models.

Apple says it delivers up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro, while the new thermal system uses a custom vapour chamber to help manage heat during gaming, multitasking and AI workloads.

The foldable also uses a dual-battery setup, with one battery on each side of the phone. Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner display and up to 44 hours using the outer display.

What About iOS?

The iPhone Duo runs iOS 27, which has been redesigned around the foldable form factor.

Apple is adding new multitasking features including Split View, allowing two apps to run side by side for the first time on iPhone. Apps can also adapt as the phone folds, changes orientation or switches between the inner and outer displays.

iPhone Duo Malaysia Price and Availability

The iPhone Duo starts at RM9,499 for the 256GB model, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options also available.

It comes in two colours: Star White and Night Sky.

For Malaysia, pre-orders will open at 8pm on 16 October 2026, with availability starting 23 October 2026.

Apple is also launching the iPhone Duo Case at RM319 and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at RM529.

So yeah, Apple finally has a foldable iPhone. The bigger question now is whether the RM9,499 starting price is enough to convince people to make the jump. 🫣📱
